A Better View on Windows

Why Windows Treatments? Why Not?

They are what makes a room not only feel complete but also adds that touch of warmth to any space and as an added bonus they provide a ton of benefits to any home!

In today’s world homes are large and many have two-story living rooms and or entry ways. Windows treatments help with echo’s in a house, as well as soaks up noise carrying from room to room! Almost every “new” house has that two-story living room and bedrooms right up the back stairs. Who doesn't feel guilty watching TV if a kiddo is sleeping right at the top of the stairs! YES...Window Treatments actually do help with this! I know...its crazy...but they do!

So where should be start? Let's start with the "pretty"! Fabrics on windows are always such a great way to dress up a window in a classy way! We personally love simple panels as well as a cornice above a window, oh and a cornice with a panel! So MANY decisions!!!

What is a simple panel?

Panels are fabrics that sit on the ends of each windows, they don't close, they just sit and look pretty in such a classy way! ;-) and NO they don't come this way - we pick every little detail out to make each window treatment completely custom and one of a kind! For this particular job we picked 3 fabrics that we LOVED and had to find a way to blend them together. We started with the navy top to match the sofa, then we feel in LOVE with the light linen sheer fabric that had to be the main focus...but we needed something to pull it all together, we found a fabric that was PERFECT to blend between the navy and cream, and all of a sudden we had a plan to make these beautiful panels!

This is how it all starts...

And this is after installation...

**note for later...see they are perfectly "kissing" the floor! WE LOVE GOOD MEASUREMENTS!!!

What is a cornice?

A cornice is made on a board from a design that we create and has fabric wrapped around it to create not only warmth but add a stunning dramatic design to any room. The design can be ANYTHING, curved boards, straight boards, moroccan design....anything!!

For this cornice, we knew exactly what we wanted to achieve yet we needed to add something special to the design! The fabric was LOVE at first site...then it took about 3 hours to find the perfect trim, but it was WELL WORTH IT and THAT MATCH of COLOR = PERFECTION!!!

THAT TRIM MATCH!!!!!

After!

And of course....for the finale, we obviously love the duo....a cornice and panel!!

For this room we knew immediately the panel sheer that we wanted to use but we had to do a little digging to find the perfect fabric for the cornice. Our client loves that hint of (in industry terms "a breathe of fresh air" color, in reality its a mix of light green added with a little blue to balance the tone out). So we searched high and low and found the MOST perfect fabric....come to find out - it is the "backing" to a fabric, the front had a lot of browns in it...after much convincing (on our end) of our mill house...they agreed to do the fabric on the opposite side and it quickly became one our our favorite window treatments!

YOU can CLEARLY see the backing of the fabric and we are soooo happy about how it turned out!

AFTER - OHHHHH THE PRETTY!!!

How does the process begin?

Our process starts with a sketch of the window and inspiration visions. We usually do this step after we have selected fabrics for furniture…we bring everything to our mill…. rugs, paint colors, fabrics that have been chosen and we dive through thousands of fabrics and trims. We pick everything from the rods and material – metal or woof, the finials! Then comes measuring! And it’s a process! The measurement has to be absolutely perfect from width of blinds to height over the window to “kissing” the floor!

It’s one of our favorite things to do, we truly believe that treatments and fabrics change a room!

Stay tuned for more!
